Dietician Consultation for an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) is a specialized, patient-centered approach to coordinate and optimize the nutritional care of individuals who have sustained a brain injury. A dietician assesses, plans, implements, monitors, and adjusts nutritional interventions to support recovery, manage complications, and promote long-term well-being.

Nutritional Assessment
Evaluating nutritional status, considering the hypermetabolic state common after an ABI, and measuring energy and protein needs.
Individualized Care Plan
A tailored plan ensuring adequate energy and protein intake to support healing and prevent muscle wasting.
Feeding Interventions
Determining feeding methods, including enteral/tube feeding when needed, and managing the transition to oral feeding.
Team Collaboration
Working closely with physiotherapists, OTs, speech therapists, physicians, and case managers for holistic care.
Patient & Family Education
Empowering patients and families to make informed dietary choices and manage the diet independently.
Ongoing Monitoring
Regularly tracking weight, biochemical markers, and clinical symptoms, adjusting the plan as needs change.
